This is a PDF File/digital download, NOT a paper pattern! This sampler is an original design, not a reproduction. I've been wanting to do a simple marking sampler for a while and wanted to use the most aged colors I could fine to stitch it. And, I envisioned a finish of this type...not a framed piece, but one made into a sort of mat to be layed flat or rolled. My friend, Carmen Sutton, came to my rescue! Carmen is an amazing needle artist. She not only stitched this sampler but finished it as well. And, thinking ahead, she made a second piece so I might be able to show the rolled piece beside the flat piece in my photo. I'm so very grateful! Notice how Carmen stitched Mary Anne's name over one to make a label for the rolled sampler. Genius!! This piece was stitched on 40-Count Heartland from Picture This Plus using one strand of Gentle Art Sampler Threads over two threads of linen. Cross stitch is used throughout. To finish this sampler into a mat, Carmen used a reproduction cotton fabric for the backing and stitched the sampler to the backing fabric, right sides together, leaving a space for turning. She also inserted a piece of vintage rayon ribbon between the front and the back before sewing. After turning, she pressed the piece and hand stitched the opening closed. She stitched an antique button onto the backing fabric in the same place the ribbon was inserted. She then stitched a label using Mary Anne's name as charted, finished the edges with a nun's stitch and attached it to the back side of the mat. Stitch Count: 95 wide by 109 high. Gentle Art Sampler Threads used: Aged Pewter, Caramel Corn, Cide Mill Brown, Flax, Lexington Green, Maple Syrup, Sage, Woodsmoke. As always, a conversion to DMC is provided. Thank you!
